The Rising Star Fife and Drum Band leads the Saturday procession from the old train station to the main stage. Sharde Turner, in glasses and playing conga, is a granddaughter of the late great Otha Turner. Sharde is the last of the fife players, who can trace their roots to West Africa. Otha, and now Sharde, have led this march every year since the inception of the Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival.
